Don’t bother trying to change or reform yourself
through religion or psychotherapy or New Age fads.
What you think of as yourself is just your ego,
your little concept of yourself.
It’s just a self-delusion so there’s no help for it.
Just recognize that your egoic mind and its thinking processes are just an illusion.
Accept that. And don’t try to improve yourself.
Don’t kid yourself that you’re on some grand spiritual path.
The Tao is hidden behind or within your false self,
the self your egoic mind creates for you to present to the world.
But don’t let the fact that it’s a false self trouble you or hold you back.
You don’t have to search for your real self.
You have no real self.
Or perhaps your false self is your real self.
Of course, that’s a paradox.
Welcome to the Zen universe.
Once you know this you can just let all spiritual seeking go.
Don’t mess with religion or meditation.
Just go with the flow.
The Tao is in there somewhere, so don’t fret about it.
However you look at it, it’s a bit of a cosmic joke and the joke’s on you.
Now, you feel free of the need to change or improve your false self,
which is the only self you’ve got so cherish it.
No need to give up doing what your false self likes to do.
Watch game shows or sitcoms or baseball or football.
Read whatever you want – news, opinion, history, literature, pop novels, or cereal box tops.
Whatever is in you and motivating your actions is just the Tao doing its organic thing,
It has no beginning or end or purpose.
The cosmos, of which you are a tiny expression,
is not trying to get anywhere or do anything.
It just is.
